WHAT DOES ETHICAL ART MEAN?
✖ Pollution
Disposing of paint and related materials is challenging and requires special handling. Irresponsible disposal leads to environmental damage and pollution.
✖ Slavery
Cheap art materials are broadly made with violating workers’ rights and human rights. In sweatshops workers are paid extremely low wages, getting poor treatment and conditions.
✖ Cruelty
Animal derivatives are traditional and common in art supplies. Mainly produced in countries without nationwide laws that prohibit the mistreatment of animals. Most paint manufacturers also conduct animal testing.
✖ Unsafe
Reproductions, prints and cheaper paintings commonly encountered hazardous chemicals in paint and related products, including lead, cadmium, chromium, formaldehyde and solvents. Having these toxic metals and chemicals in your surroundings causes lung damage, allergic reactions, and other health problems.
✖ Sourcing of materials
Some paints contain pigments that are sourced from materials that were obtained through environmentally destructive or exploitative practices. For example, certain pigments may be derived from minerals that were mined using child labor or other forms of exploitation.
