  • The world has reached a tipping point on issues such as social inequality, animal abuse, and the environmental crisis. Conceptual art addresses challenges our Earth faces due human activity.

Deep blue colour of this artwork represent how ocean pollution is often "out of sight, out of mind" for many people, as pollutants can be hidden beneath the surface of seemingly clean waters.

While the harms of ocean plastic pollution are widely known, few are aware of the staggering toll that other industries take on our seas. The fishing industry alone is responsible for an astounding 25 trillion individual aquatic animals killed annually - that's more than any other human activity. The immense scale of this suffering is difficult to fathom.

Beyond fishing, the oil and gas industry inflicts grave damage. Offshore drilling rigs and platforms routinely discharge toxic waste, contaminating ocean ecosystems. And the transportation of fossil fuels by ship results in oil spills that devastate marine life and habitats.

Yet the harm extends even further. The greenhouse gas emissions from these polluting industries are a major driver of climate change, which is warming and acidifying our oceans at an alarming rate. This disrupts delicate marine food webs and threatens the very existence of countless species.

To protect our blue planet, we must urgently support regulations, sustainable alternatives, and public awareness campaigns targeting these unseen threats. I encourage banning fish from our tables and stop subsidising the fishing industry with consumer money. The future health of our oceans - and our world - depends on it.
